Ambient VII

Ambient VII, released in 2016, was the earliest album of mine to make a feature of field recordings I had made myself. Not all the tracks on the album used them, but these are the four which do:

Earith Flow

Earith Flow. The original recordings for this piece were made at Hermitage Lock, Earith, Cambridgeshire, in August 2015, using a Marantz PMD660 without external microphones. The original 48k WAV files were transferred to a MacBook and edited using Audacity and Logic; some have been manipulated by the application fLOW by Karlheinz Essl. Similar pieces from the same series of recordings have appeared on various of my albums, including The Ouse Washes Project, also featured on this site.

Sapling Windmill

Sapling Windmill. I had visited the newly-restored windmill in Burwell, Cambridgeshire, in April 2015, but without my recording equipment. Nevertheless, I was able to record some movies of the mill in operation on my iPhone. The movies were transferred to my MacBook and the mono soundtracks extracted; these were edited using Audacity and Logic and manipulated with the application Sapling by Sineqube to produce this finished piece.

Welney Swans

Welney Swans. This recording was made at the Wildfowl Wetland Trust site at Welney Cambridgeshire, in January 2016, using a Marantz PMD660 recorder and external microphones made by Ian Brady, and subsequently manipulated with the program REplay PLAYer by Karlheinz Essl. Similar pieces from the same series of recordings have appeared on various of my albums, including The Ouse Washes Project, also featured on this site.

Airshow Replay

Airshow Replay. This recording was made during an airshow at Duxford Airfield, Cambridgeshire, in the summer of 2011, using a Marantz PMD661 without external microphones. It was edited on my MacBook using Audacity and Logic and manipulated with the application with the program REplay PLAYer by Karlheinz Essl.
